Environmental Officer (Mining)

About Oakmont Group

Oakmont Group is a mining and minerals trading company with operations in Taita Taveta, Kwale, and Siaya counties. The company holds mining licences for graphite, titanium, and gold and operates processing plants that produce mineral concentrates for export. Founded in 2008, Oakmont employs 350 staff and has invested over KES 2 billion in mining equipment and infrastructure. The company works with the county governments and local communities through corporate social responsibility programmes in education, water, and health. Oakmont Group is licensed by the Ministry of Mining and complies with the Mining Act 2016.

What you will do:

You will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the company's health, safety, and environmental management programmes at the mine site. Daily tasks include conducting safety inspections, investigating incidents and near-misses, preparing safety reports, and delivering safety training to mine workers. The role involves ensuring compliance with the Mining Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and NEMA regulations. You will also manage the mine's environmental monitoring programme, including water quality testing, dust monitoring, and rehabilitation planning. A diploma or degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field is required. Certification as a safety officer from a recognised body is an advantage.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in a relevant field from a recognised institution
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience in a similar role
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Must be a Kenyan citizen aged 21 years or above
