The Finnish Foundation for Economic Education is accepting applications for its Grants for Research Groups 2026. Eligible researchers are encouraged to review the details below and submit their applications before the deadline.

About the Programme

Research group grants enable multi year projects that generate solutions to current economic, business, and societal challenges. The foundation encourages pioneering research and the use of novel datasets and databases. This funding opportunity is designed to support collaborative research efforts that address pressing issues in the Finnish economic and business landscape.

The Principal Investigator is responsible for submitting the application for a three year research group grant as part of the annual call for applications. This means that the PI takes lead on crafting the research proposal, assembling the research team, and managing the project throughout its duration. The programme recognises that complex economic and business challenges often require sustained effort over multiple years rather than short term interventions.

The Finnish Foundation for Economic Education also known as Liikesivistysrahasto has a long history of supporting high quality research that bridges academic inquiry and practical business applications. The foundation prioritises projects that have the potential to inform policy decisions, improve business practices, and contribute to economic development in Finland and beyond.

Funding Benefits

Funding is available for a 36 month period. This three year timeline allows research groups to design and execute comprehensive studies including data collection, analysis, publication, and dissemination of findings. The total grant range is EUR 150,000 to EUR 300,000. This level of funding supports salaries for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, research materials, data acquisition, travel for collaboration and conferences, and other direct costs associated with running a multi year research project.

The grant is disbursed according to a schedule agreed upon with the foundation. Recipients must provide regular progress reports and financial accounting to ensure proper use of funds. Unused funds or changes to the research plan may require approval from the foundation.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility is limited to Principal Investigators affiliated with a domestic host institution. This means the PI must hold a position at a Finnish university, research institute, or other approved research organisation. The host institution provides administrative oversight and ensures compliance with research ethics and financial regulations.

The research group must consist primarily of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. These early career researchers form the core of the project team and are expected to contribute significantly to the research output. The programme does not fund undergraduate or graduate degree studies. Students seeking support for thesis work or coursework should explore other grant categories offered by the foundation.

Individuals, working groups, and organizations may also apply under different grant categories, but this multi year research group funding is specifically designed for group based research projects led by an eligible Principal Investigator. Applicants who do not meet the group funding criteria are encouraged to review other funding opportunities on the foundation website.

Application Process

The application must be submitted through the foundation online portal. Required documents include a detailed research plan, budget breakdown, CVs of all team members, and a letter of support from the host institution. The research plan should clearly state the project objectives, methodology, timeline, and expected outcomes.
