The Randal Foundation in partnership with the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is offering small grants to support grassroots activity that directly saves or significantly improves lives in line with the Randal Foundation mission. Eligible organisations are encouraged to review the details below and submit their applications.
About The Foundation
The Randal Foundation works to deliver the vision of founders Dr Nik and Moni Kotecha of saving and significantly improving the lives of 1 million people across the UK and globally. The foundation works in partnership with inspirational organisations bringing support and essential funding to both create opportunity and foster hope for those in greatest need.
Purpose Of Grants
Projects must address the following priority areas. Poverty alleviation and support for women and children at risk of immediate harm.
Grants Available
Small grants of up to £3,000 are available through an open call. Funding is for project costs only and not to support core organisational overheads or capital campaigns.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be registered charities, community groups, or not for profit organisations operating in Northern Ireland. Organisations should have a turnover of less than £100,000 per annum. Organisations must demonstrate a clear track record of delivering impactful work in one or more of the following areas poverty alleviation or support for women and children at risk of immediate harm.
This funding strand will focus on supporting projects addressing violence against women and girls and projects supporting refugees and asylum seekers and will include proposals more broadly focused on alleviating poverty in general. Preference will be given to grassroots and smaller organisations especially those with lived experience represented in their governance or delivery teams.
Examples Of Eligible Projects
Emergency Family Support Fund for provision of essential food, heating top ups and hygiene packs for women and children experiencing crisis or domestic abuse. Safe and Supported Women Programme for weekly peer led support group and one to one advocacy sessions for women at immediate risk of violence or exploitation. Community Crisis Counselling Project for short term trauma informed counselling sessions for individuals experiencing acute mental distress linked to poverty or harm.
Refugee and Asylum Seeker Essentials Scheme for distribution of starter packs including clothing, toiletries and baby supplies alongside signposting to local health and welfare services. Family Wellbeing and Recovery Workshops for a 10 week programme combining therapeutic play and parenting support for children affected by domestic abuse.
Assessment Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on clear demonstration of how the project will save or significantly improve lives, evidence of community need and how the project addresses this need, inclusion of monitoring and evaluation plans to measure outcomes, commitment to diversity equity and inclusion including representation of lived experience in project design or delivery, and ability to deliver the project within the grant period and report on outcomes.
What Cannot Be Funded
The Community Foundation will not fund organisations or activities which promote causes that are contrary to its purposes including those linked to the promotion of armaments, alcohol, human rights abuses, tobacco or pornography.
General exclusions include the advancement of religion, establishment or endowment of any school or institution providing further education, provision of assistance to any Housing Association, promotion of religious or political activity including flags and emblems, CIC companies limited by shares or CICs without an asset lock clause, trips outside of Northern Ireland, applications from individuals, applications from statutory organisations, projects lasting longer than twelve months, purchase of vehicles, holiday schemes, parties and shopping trips, and activities that duplicate existing services.
Grants will not be made to individuals or for profit organisations. Funding is not available for capital or building campaigns, advocacy programmes, or fundraising events.
Reporting And Monitoring
Successful applicants must agree to provide comprehensive monitoring and reporting within agreed timescales including data, stories, and evidence of impact. The foundation may request participation in beneficiary spotlights or thematic highlights for communications purposes.
Organisational Requirements
Applicants must be locally based not for profit, voluntary or community groups working in Northern Ireland to improve the quality of life for local people. An active management committee is required with no two related cheque signatories. A governing document such as a constitution in the name of the applicant organisation is required. A current bank account in the name of the organisation is required. Up to date annual accounts are required. Previous grant conditions including submission of monitoring returns must have been complied with.
Application Process
This is a rolling fund. Applications received by the end of each month will be assessed during the following month. A high level of interest is expected so the fund may close for applications within a relatively short space of time if funds are insufficient to meet demand. The Community Foundation uses a new Fundseeker Portal for all applications and monitoring.
