Manager, Mineral Exploration

Job Type: Contract, Full Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and managing diverse field-based exploration program
  • Reviewing research proposals and reports on geological investigation and mineral exploration
  • Reviewing performance of geological contractors and consultants
  • Designing and execution of exploratory drilling to extract subsurface rock cores to sampling analysis and modelling of 3D Geometry of the Ore body to estimate grade and tonnage
  • Conducting studies and identifying growth opportunities to determine the viability of mineral prospects for profitable extraction
  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health and safety standards including personal protective equipment
  • Providing overall leadership for the Division
  • Ensuring continuous capacity building, coaching, mentorship of Division’s staff
  • Development of Growth strategy panning for mines
  • Evaluating performance and productivity
  • Any other duty or responsibility as may be assigned by the CEO

Requirement for Appointment

  • A person shall be qualified for appointment as the Manager, Mineral Exploration if that person meets the following minimum requirements:
  • Masters’ degree in the following disciplines; Geology, geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth sciences or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following discipline: Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution:
  • At least ten (10) years’ work experience, five (5) of which must have been in a management role:
  • Management /leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution:
  • Registered by the Geologist Registration Board (GRB) and in good standing
  • Proficiency in computer application; and
  • Fulfilled the requirements of chapter six of the constitution

Geologist

Job Type: Full Time

Job Description

The purpose of the job is to undertake long term planning, preparation, verification and implementation of the Division’s mandates that includes: detailed geochemical exploration, trenching and rock chip sampling to define anomalies for target mineral(s); Policy Interpretation for Mineral Resource Development; Designing and execution of exploratory drilling to extract subsurface rock cores for sampling, analysis and modelling of 3-D geometry of the ore body to estimate grade and tonnage

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field exploration for rocks and mineral deposits of economic value;
  • Identify drilling sites;
  • Supervise implementation of plans for drilling operations including: Core logging and core sampling;
  • Conduct geological site investigations;
  • Generate and interpret prospect-level maps including: lithological, structural, mineral resource and cross-section seismic profiles;
  • Generate additional geological, geochemical or geophysical data;
  • Undertake post-drilling analysis and evaluation;
  • Undertake chemical, mineralogical or microscopic examinations of exploration samples; and
  • Compile, interpret and present exploration data for usage

Requirement for Appointment

  • Person shall be qualified for appointment as the Geologist if that person meets the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following disciplines: - Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Engineering Geology or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies Registered by the Geologists’ Registration Board (GRB) and in good standing;
  • Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;

Mining Engineer

Job Type: Full Time
Qualification: BA/BSc/HND
Location: Nairobi
Job Field: Oil and Gas, Energy and Mining

Job Description

To implement the Division’s mandates by: preparing and implementing mine plans designs, mine scheduling, waste rock management and land reclamation plans; managing run of mine stock piles; preparing applications for mineral rights and periodical performance reports on mineral rights; preparing reports and instructions for geotechnical operations; and implementing mine environmental, safety and health regulations.

To implement the Division’s mandates by preparing designs and supervising installation of mineral processing plants; implement mineral processing waste plan and mine safety, environment and health regulations; manage mineral products stock piles and supervise and prepare reports for metallurgical test.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare applications for and periodical performance reports of mineral rights
  • Prepare and implement mine plans
  • Prepare reports and instructions for geotechnical operations
  • Prepare and implement mine scheduling
  • Prepare and implement waste rock management plans
  • Management of run of mine stockpiles
  • Implement mine safety, environment and health regulations in mining operations

Requirement for Appointment

  • A person shall be qualified for appointment as the Mining Engineer if that person meets the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in either, mining, mineral processing, extractive metallurgy or civil engineering

Office Administrator

Job Type: Full Time

Job Description

To coordination of office administrative services and gives direction on secretarial and logistics support to ensure the smooth running of all offices activities in order to achieve the Board’s mandate

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to correspondences attending to visitors/clients; handling telephone calls, enquiries, and appointments
  • Maintain office diary, itineraries and office protocol;
  • Monitor procedures for record keeping for correspondences;
  • Record and compile customer complaints at the Office.
  • Ensure security of office equipment, documents, and records in the department;
  • Draft, receive, sort and disseminate correspondence, reports, circulars and publications when required;
  • Manage office protocol and etiquette;
  • Manage office petty cash and consumables;

Requirement for Appointment

  • A person shall be qualified for appointment as the Office Administrator if that person meets the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelors’ degree in Secretarial Management, Business and Office Management, Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in computer applications

Assistant Office Administrator

Job Description

The purpose of the job is to Provide secretarial support services to the Board to ensure smooth running of all departmental activities in order to achieve the mandate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend to visitors/clients;
  • Respond to telephone calls and enquiries;
  • Handle customer inquries aind complaints;
  • Ensure security of office records, equipment, and documents;
  • Ensure confidentiality of office information/data;
  • Manage office protocol and etiquette;
  • Facilitate the general administration of the respective Office;

Job Dimensions

  • Managing office petty cash
  • Responsible for physical assets in the assigned office, safes, furniture and office equipment.

Operational Decisions

  • Performed in an office setting at the Board’s Headquarters with occasional field assignments.

Requirements for Appointment

  • KCSE Mean grade C-

Professional Qualifications

  • Have passed in the following subjects offered by the Kenya National Examinations Council:
  • Typewriting II (40 W.P.M.), or computerized document processing III
  • Business English II
  • Commerce II
  • Office Management II/Office Administration and Management III
  • Secretarial Duties II
  • Office Practice II
  • Proficiency in computer applications
