AGRTP Full-Time Scholarship for Postgraduate Researchers
Australian or New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents are encouraged to apply for an AGRTP scholarship. This award is granted to postgraduate researchers with exceptional promise on the basis of academic merit and research potential. Scholarship Duration and Value
AGRTP Scholarships are normally tenable for 3.5 years for Research Doctorate studies. This includes 3.5 years full-time equivalent tuition fee coverage and 3 years full-time equivalent for stipend and operating funds allowances. For Research Masters studies, the scholarship is tenable for two years, subject to satisfactory progress.
An extension of up to six months may be granted for Research Doctorates. Candidates must be making satisfactory progress, and the grounds for the extension must relate to the study and be beyond the control of the candidate.
Leave Entitlements
Scholarship candidates are entitled to the following leave benefits:
- 20 paid annual leave working days per year
- 10 paid sick leave days per year
- Up to 20 weeks of paid primary carer parental leave
Application Deadlines
Applications for the 2026 mid-year round for commencement in Session 2, 2026, are currently closed.
Applications for the 2027 round for commencement in Session 1, 2027, are open. The deadline to apply is 5.00pm AEDT on Friday 9 October 2026.

Applicants must apply online via one of the available application portals on the university website. Applications submitted via email will not be accepted.
Please note that scholarships will be reduced by any periods of Higher Degree by Research study undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the scholarship.
Prospective Candidates
Prospective Higher Degree by Research candidates can apply for an AGRTP Full-Time Scholarship when completing their Charles Sturt course admission application. Current Charles Sturt HDR Candidates
Candidates who are already enrolled in a Charles Sturt HDR course must complete a separate scholarship application to be considered for the award.
