NOK 15,000 Master’s Student Grant at University of Agder 2026-2027

The Centre for Gender and Equality at the University of Agder (UiA) is awarding five master’s grants of NOK 15,000 each. These grants are available to UiA students who will be submitting their thesis during the 2026–2027 academic year. The application deadline is October 1, 2026.

About the Centre for Gender and Equality Grant

According to adviser Thea Mujkic Litschi, equality is a theme that can be used as an analytical tool in any discipline. For this reason, the centre is awarding grants to students who choose to highlight topics related to equality, inclusion, and diversity. All students, regardless of their study program, may apply for the grant.

Equality does not necessarily have to be the main theme of the thesis, but it must be a central perspective in the analysis. Applications are assessed based on the quality of the project description, relevance, and regional context. Theses focusing on the Agder region will be prioritized.

Eligibility and Suggested Topics

To be eligible to receive the grant, your thesis must address a topic related to equality, diversity, and inclusion. The Centre for Gender and Equality works with a broad understanding of equality and focuses on all the grounds for discrimination recognized in law.

Grounds for Discrimination

  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • Religion and beliefs
  • Disability
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity
  • Gender expression
  • Age
  • Pregnancy, parental leave, and care responsibilities

One of the five grants is specifically earmarked for topics related to gender and sexual diversity. The Centre for Equality can provide tips on sources and resources for students wishing to explore this area further.

How to Apply for the Master’s Grant

Submit your application by October 1, 2026. You must include specific documents to ensure your application is considered.

Required Documents

  • Application letter: Briefly introduce yourself, your master’s program, the topic of your thesis, and your motivation. Explain why the topic is relevant and how it connects to equality. Include the name of your supervisor, though this can be submitted later if necessary.
  • Project outline: A maximum of 3 pages including the topic, research question, choice of theory and method, and a progress plan. If these requirements are not met, your application will not be considered.
  • Confirmation of admission: Proof of admission to a master’s program at UiA, such as a screenshot from Studentweb.

Grant Criteria and Payout Details

If your application is approved, the grant of NOK 15,000 will be paid in two installments. You will receive half of the amount when you begin your thesis with a supervisor in place. The remainder will be paid when the thesis is submitted and approved.

Seminar Participation

Grant recipients will be invited to two writing seminars during 2027. These seminars offer students the chance to discuss their projects and share experiences. Participation in at least one of the seminars is required to receive the funding, as the centre wants to support students throughout the process academically, not only financially.

Dissemination of Results

After submission, grant recipients must share their results with The Centre for Gender and Equality and other interested parties. This can be done either by presenting at a seminar or through an interview for a UiA web article.
