Program Overview

This competitive program seeks to promote the importance of training healthcare professionals to recognize, diagnose, treat and monitor ATTR cardiac amyloidosis and to foster research in this field. The grant intends to support institutions with strong experience in the management of ATTR cardiac amyloidosis patients who are willing to guide and educate a fellow physician in order to develop an in depth understanding of the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of ATTR patients.

Funding Range And Project Length

Grant funding is available to support one fellow for up to 6 months up to €50,000. The budget can only include salary and support of the fellow benefits. Grant funds cannot be used for overhead or indirect costs, food and beverage, travel expenses, rent or accommodation of the fellow. Funding will be awarded to the institution not an individual.

Key Milestones

The submission deadline is July 15 2026. Anticipated grant award notification is in September 2026. Anticipated project start date is November 2026. Anticipated project end date is May 2027.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be German based institutions. The name of the potential fellow must not be included in application materials. This grant will be awarded to an institution not an individual.

Institutions must have fellowship programs that include a strong mentoring program and potentially independent research. Clinical training must be included in the program. Examples of clinical training include active participation in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of ATTR amyloidosis patients and suspect patients, educational time with an interdisciplinary team in review of case examples and relevant didactic training, and use of tools for improvement in patient health for specific therapeutic areas or conditions.

No aspect of the fellowship program can benefit Pfizer business or a Pfizer asset. Examples of research that would not be eligible include research involving the study or evaluation of any pharmaceutical product and basic science or fundamental research in animal models or in vitro. Fellow time spent in the clinical setting that is supported through grant funds must not be billed as patient care.

Specific Area Of Interest

The grant seeks to support clinical training fellowship programs at institutions with strong experience in the management of ATTR cardiac amyloidosis patients who are willing to guide and educate a fellow physician to develop an in depth understanding of the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of ATTR patients. The grant will be awarded based on the strength of the requesting organisation ability to provide training and guidance to the fellow.

Requirements For Prospective Fellows

The institution must ensure that any fellow receiving grant funds must be a German Worker meaning a German citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee, or hold an appropriate non immigrant visa status authorizing employment in Germany. As a condition of the grant the selected fellow will be named in transparency reporting as a recipient of grant funding.

Review And Approval Process

This request for proposals uses an internal review panel to make the final grant decision. Proposals will be evaluated based on fellowship objectives, medical needs, ATTR CM patient care experience, mentoring and training opportunities, and resources. All applicants will be notified via email by the dates noted above. Applicants may be asked for additional clarification during the review period.
