The Coronation Bursary Scheme 2026-27 is currently accepting nominations from schools and colleges. Eligible institutions are encouraged to review the details below and submit their nominations before the deadline.

About the Programme

Schools and colleges are each invited to nominate one young person aged between 15 and 19 years of age for a bursary award. This programme recognises that achievement takes many forms and that traditional academic results do not always capture the full range of a young person contributions to their school and community.

Costs may be used to support the ongoing development of the nominated young person and to recognise their achievement. The funding is flexible and can be applied toward activities or resources that will help the recipient continue their personal growth. Examples might include equipment for a hobby or skill, fees for a course or workshop, travel costs for a development opportunity, or resources to support volunteering or leadership activities.

Funding is available to support 20 bursaries of £500 across the Borough. This means that 20 young people will receive this recognition and financial support. Schools and colleges must select their nominee carefully because each institution can only put forward one candidate per financial year.

Assessment Criteria

Applications are assessed on the basis that the young person has demonstrated achievement which may not have resulted in high academic results but through other means. The programme explicitly values non academic forms of success and contribution.

Examples of qualifying achievements include participation in school or community activities, providing support to promote respect and understanding among others, and overcoming adversity. A young person who has faced significant personal challenges and continued to contribute positively to their community would be a strong candidate. Similarly a student who has worked to build bridges between different groups or has shown exceptional kindness and leadership outside the classroom would be eligible.

The programme intentionally moves away from a narrow focus on grades and test scores. Instead it celebrates resilience, character, community engagement, and the ability to uplift others. This approach recognises that many young people with tremendous potential may never excel in traditional academic settings but have much to offer their communities.

Funding Size

Up to £500 per individual is available. This is a one time bursary rather than recurring annual support.

Eligibility Requirements

The bursary is suitable for individuals between 15 and 19 years old residing in the ABC Borough. The nominee must live within the borough boundaries. Nominations must be submitted by schools or colleges located within the ABC Borough. Only one application per school or college per financial year is permitted. The programme does not accept direct applications from individuals or families. Young people who wish to be considered should speak with a teacher or administrator at their school or college.

How To Apply

Schools and colleges must register on the grants portal using an email address. The system sends a magic link to the inbox. Clicking this link provides secure access to the account without requiring a password. This one time access link should be used carefully as it is only valid for a single session. New one time access links can be generated through the same registration form.

Once logged in users can browse available grants and complete the online application form. The form allows applicants to save progress and return later. Application status can be tracked directly through the service. Draft applications are deleted after six months in line with the privacy policy.

Help And Support

If assistance is needed at any stage the support team is available to provide guidance or technical support.
